I don’t know about you beautiful #BagelBabes but hot weather makes me want to either A) chop all my hair off or B) tie it up. Seriously boys do not understand the plight of having a head full of hair. When KB and I were in Italy last year my hair was so long and it bothered me the entire trip. I walked off the plane (after an 11 hour flight) and straight into my hair salon and had it cut into a lob. Insert sigh of relief.

The last thing we girls need to deal with on a hot day is a head full of hair – but we still want to look cute and a boring old bun just won’t cut it. My favorite hair style for spring and summer is my easy 3 step braided chignon! This hairstyle kind of rocks because it’s chic and classy enough to wear for a special occasion (it is graduation and wedding season, after all), but it’s also easy enough to pull off every day. Oh – and you can also totally rock it on second day hair (because seriously who has time to wash their hair every day).

Step 1: Brush it.

Whatever hair you’re starting on, note that texture is the key to this style. You’ll want your hair to be shiny, smooth, and bouncy to add volume to the look over all. Having the right tools makes this super easy to achieve. I personally love to brush out my hair using the Goody Clean Radiance Oval Cushion Brush before I start. I actually have a pretty oily scalp and the copper bristles on this bad boy help to reduce buildup giving a healthier shine.

I like to grab my hair style supplies from Walgreens. The sales are seriously out of this world affordable and I can grab all the things I need in one place. My biggest hair pet peeve are hair ties that slide – you know when you leave the house and have an amazing top knot but by lunchtime it’s sliding down the back of your head? Not cute. I love to use the Goody SlideProof Silicone Clear Ponytailers and the Goody Simple Styles Hair Spin Pin in addition to the brush mentioned above for my braided chignon. They seriously give my chignons and buns extra staying power. The Walgreens hair aisle can get overwhelmingly crowded but have no fear – all these Goody “goodies” (wink wink) are easy to find – just keep an eye out for the purple packaging! Walgreens is also doing a buy one get one free promotion on all these supplies until June 4th – which seriously rocks.

Step 2: Braid it.

I am seriously not a braiding expert. I can’t french braid, fishtail braid, dutch braid, none of that fancy stuff! What I can do is your super simple every day basic braid (you know, the one your mom had you rocking in your braided pigtails in the third grade). I know – I’m totally grade school chic right now.

I grab a chunk out of the front section of my hair and make sure to pull tight as I start to braid towards the back of my head. If you can french braid you can totally substitute here – it’d probably be even cuter! Once I have my braid done I pull it along with the rest of my hair back into a low ponytail. I secure the ponytail using the Goody SlideProof Silicone Ponytailers because those things do. not. budge. I also like the clear color so that it almost looks like my hair sits this way naturally, rather than having a visible black band.

Step 3: Pin it.

Can you believe we’re almost done? Your last step is to take your gorgeous locks, twist the ponytail around into a ballerina style bun, and pin it using the Goody Simple Styles Hair Spin Pin. This little guy is super nifty! You spin it into your bun and it locks your hair into place. Boom. That bun ain’t goin’ no where! Also my Walgreens didn’t have the pin in “blonde” so I ended up grabbing the “brunette” color – and it totally worked!

And viola you’re done! Seriously I am so proud of myself on this one you guys. I have like 0.5 seconds to get ready every morning (because sleep > looking attractive) and I know you’re all busy #BagelBabes yourselves! It’s really hard to beat a hairstyle that has you looking gorgeous in three easy steps.
