Every time the New Year rolls around I make the same resolution – drink more water. Who’s with me? But do we actually drink the amount of water we’re supposed to?

Meh.

Usually I don’t drink enough water because I’m “too busy.” I’m on the go, it’s too much of a hassle – whatever.

I’ve written about how to stay hydrated in the past, but I’m determined to actually kick this goal to the curb. Here’s how I’m going to do it – and how you can too.

How to hydrate!

Follow the 8×8 rule.

Most of us want to stay hydrated but totally aren’t drinking enough water. Most of us don’t even know how much water we “should” be drinking.

The easiest metric to stay hydrated is to follow the “8×8 rule.” The 8×8 rule says that you should drink 8 eight oz glasses of water per day.

I don’t know about ya’ll but I definitely don’t come anywhere near close to that.

Now that I know the amount I need to drink, I’ve really started to step by game up and find new tricks to keep myself hydrated while on the go.

Pick the perfect bottle.

I’ve blown through so many water bottles on my journey to try to stay hydrated. Either they’re too big, too little, too heavy, too lackluster. But lately I’ve been in a serious relationship with the Contigo AUTOSEAL® Chill Spill-Proof Water Bottle.

Let me sum it up for you. This bad boy has a sealed lid that makes it spill proof. And when I’m carrying my bottle to work in a nice handbag – that matters.

The AUTOSEAL® Chill is also insulated and keeps water cool all day long. I think they quote it at 28 hours of cooling or something absolutely insane like that. What I do know is that I’ll fill it up on my way to work and it’s still ice cold by lunch.

Although TBH I should be drinking more than one bottle’s worth by lunch..

Anyway – I’m downright obsessed. I chose a beautiful berry color because it compliments the interior lining of my work bag so nicely. If you’re not into the berry shade though there are tons of awesome colors to choose from.

I picked up my Contigo in the housewares aisle at Target for less than $20. Basically every time I go in there I black out and need to buy everything.

Lol raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by Target…and totally loved it.

Take your water to go.

Having a water bottle at home or at your desk isn’t good enough. To stay hydrated you need to have your bottle with you all the time – and it needs to be easy to take it on the go.

If it’s a pain to use, you won’t reach for it.

My Contigo bottle has a really convenient top handle so I can grab, go, and keep hydrated. I try to take sips while I’m sitting in meetings or on the bus going home. It’s those little moments that really help me to hit my goal.

Hold yourself accountable. Track your progress!

Honestly the best way to stay hydrated is to make it a priority and hold yourself accountable. I find I drink a lot more water when I’m tracking how much I’m drinking throughout the day.

I made myself this handy hydration checklist that breaks down the amount of water to drink during the day and when – and I’m sharing it with ya’ll because you’re cute.
