How to Motivate Yourself to Workout!

I have a love-hate relationship with the gym. KB is a dedicated member of the YMCA and loves to play basketball there multiple times a week. He managed to slide me onto his membership, which leaves me the option to hit the gym whenever I so please.

The problem is I rarely so please. Lolz.

I know I’m not the only one who struggles to find motivation to work out. I mean – it’s hard. By the time I’m done with a full work day, I’m dead tired. I also struggle to get up early to go to the Y before work.

But I’m also not super into excuses. If you want something bad enough – like to live a better lifestyle – you have to commit. So here I am ready to share how I’ve mustered up the motivation to hit the gym more often, all while giving you a sneaky peeky inside my gym bag, which features LIFEWTR available at 7-Eleven.

How to motivate yourself to hit the gym:

Outline your health goals.

One of the best ways to motivate yourself to hit the gym is to understand what you want to accomplish. Do you want to lose weight? Are you trying to tone muscle? Are you just trying to raise your heart rate to keep healthy?

Whatever your goal – understanding what you want out of your gym session will help you to hit the gym in the first place!

Find gym gear that inspires you.

My favorite way to motivate myself to get to the gym is to have gym gear that makes me want to work out. Having chic gym wear makes me stoked to wear it – which means I have to hit the gym.

I wrote about my gym bag last year, but a lot has changed since then! Working a corporate job means it’s actually super obnoxious to carry a huge bag to work. No joke – every time I took that last duffel bag to work, people would ask me where my flight was to. Basically, they assumed I was heading to the airport after work.

Not a cute look.

I’ve since switched to a zip tote bag in a chic pattern. The bag is crazy functional and also crazy cute. I always look forward to wearing it!

I’ve also started to pack my bag full of inspirational items – like my LIFEWTR. Hydrating is crazy important and I’m downright obsessed with these colorful bottles.

I first tried LIFEWTR at New York Fashion Week this past February! There were fridges filled with LIFEWTR right outside every show. It rocked. Basically, you’re running from place to place and staying hydrated is a total chore. The LIFEWTR fridges were a blessing.

LIFEWTR also totally fit in with the vibe of Fashion Week. The bottles feature unique designs that ignite creativity and inspire – which is exactly why I pack them in my gym bag.

I like to grab my LIFEWTR from 7-Eleven because it’s crazy convenient – there are tons of locations! After all the shows at NYFW, I would pop into the nearest 7-Eleven to grab another bottle. This same routine has become part of my pre-gym ritual. After I head out of the office, I’ll swing by 7-Eleven and get myself excited to work out on my walk to the gym!

How to pack the perfect gym bag:

Hydration first!

Water is seriously my #1 gym essential. Staying hydrated is important in general, but it’s especially important when you’re working out.

The other big reason LIFEWTR is a gym essential for me (besides the cool bottle) is the fact that it’s purified.

LIFEWTR also has electrolytes, which are great for taste. I hate when I grab a bottle of water only to be weirded out by the taste. I like my water to taste like water. Yum!

Pack shoes with extra support.

I have a standing desk at work that I unfortunately rarely use because my feet start to ache. It’s crazy important to pack supportive shoes for your workout. I also like to try to find pairs that I think are cute – just another item that I can’t wait to put on, which means I have to schedule some gym time!

Roll your gym clothes – don’t fold.

The whole roll versus fold debate has gone on forever in the world of packing. I’m definitely on team roll. Rolling your clothes takes up less space than folding and helps to keep them wrinkle free. Yes – even at the gym, I care if I look wrinkly.

Get movin’!

It’s been so helpful to have gym gear that inspires me. Between my cute bag and my LIFEWTR bottles – I’m excited to be active.

Take it from me. Grab some gear that you love and just get moving. I have tons of days where I don’t want to work out – but I’ve never regretted a single workout I’ve done. Sometimes you just have to push yourself and get moving!
