Office Appropriate Outfit Ideas

In honor of Career Week (October 12-18) here at Blondes & Bagels, Ellen Borza of “A Pop of Pink” is partnering up with us to bring you some awesome office outfit inspiration! “A Pop of Pink” is a fashion & lifestyle blog where Ellen dishes up all the best in trends and outfits. Ellen is an outfit expert – not to mention a total sweet heart – so we leave you in her very capable hands to give you the low down on creating the perfect outfit for a modern office.

Working at an office that permits a casual dress code definitely has its perks. You can dress comfortably, and you have a lot more options. But sometimes too many options can make you feel overwhelmed when staring at the items in your closet. These tips will help you determine exactly what to wear to the office!

Dress

Striped sweater dress by Topshop (sold out, similar here), army jacket by Urban Outfitters (sold out, similar here), bag by Rebecca Minkoff, booties by Sam Edelman, aviators by Ray-Ban.

Never wear sweatpants.

Sweatpants are for nights and weekends. It would be great to wear them to work, but they’re just not professional. Wearing an outfit that makes you feel put together will help you feel ready to conquer a day’s full of work! Sweatpants make you want to curl up and binge on Netflix.

Dresses are your best friend.

When you have one of those mornings wher you’re stuck on what to wear, always go to dresses. Have simple dresses that can transition from season to season, can be layered and accessorized in many different ways. Then you’ll have tons of new looks with just a few dresses. Budget-friendly wardrobes are awesome.

Keep distressed jeans to a minimum.

Some casual offices might let you wear distressed jeans (yay). Always keep distressing to a minimum, unless you work in fashion or another really creative industry. If you work in an office that has clients coming in, wear jeans without holes on those days. You want to maintain a level of professionalism. If you aren’t sure how to make distressed jeans office appropriate, try adding a blazer or a crisp white button down to keep it professional.

When in doubt, always ask.

Sure, a casual office with a low-key dress code has its perks, but you should still keep it appropriate for the office. If there’s an outfit you’re dying to wear but aren’t sure if it’s okay for the office, ask your supervisor first.
