Olivia Palermo is the epitome of New York style – sexy but effortless, feminine but somehow edgy, and unafraid to tackle trends. As resident NYC heiress & mean girl, we loved to hate her on The City, but admittedly we also loved Olivia’s outfits. Furthermore, we’re still just a little obsessed with the Olivia Palermo style today. Ready to learn how to look like an heiress? Of course you are.
Wear shirt dresses
Olivia Palermo’s Style is ultra feminine – even when she’s wearing menswear! Olivia makes a shirt dress flirty by choosing a silhouette that flares out at the bottom and pairing with nude heels. Olivia also intelligently emphasizes her waist by tying another shirt around her mid section, but you can achieve the same waist-defining effect by belting your shirt dress.
Embrace all black
You’re not a real New Yorker if you don’t dress in all black. You just aren’t. Embrace the Olivia Palermo style by decking yourself out in this slimming shade from your sunnies down to your thigh high boots. Bonus points for dressing your pooch up in black to match.
Don’t be afraid of print mixing
Olivia Palermo’s style is fearless! She’s absolutely unafraid to try wild trends like print mixing. Print mix like Olivia by choosing pieces that have similar color tones (notice how Olivia’s top and skirt both have hits of green) and are within the same print “family” (like Olivia’s geometric horizontal stripe top and vertical stripe skirt).
Learn to love stripes
Olivia knows how to print mix, but she also embraces patterns that she loves. Olivia pairs a striped menswear inspired button down with striped trouser pants in her own updated version of a pant-suit. Pick a print you love (from paisley to polka dots) and recreate the look!
Wear statement pieces
Olivia owns many statement pieces but this studded leather jacket is drop dead gorgeous. Statement pieces serve as great conversationals and elevate any otherwise basic look. The three cardinal rules of buying statement pieces are:
1. Quality – Stick to pieces with quality fabrics and workmanship!
2. Design details – Your statement piece should have a unique design detail that makes the piece extra special (like the studs on Olivia’s jacket).
3. Longevity – Make sure your statement piece is a classic and can stand the test of time. You’ll hate having to switch out statement pieces every time a trend dies.
What do you love about the Olivia Palermo style?

Great post! I love the striped outfit and the all black look, I’m sincerely hoping I can find a black poncho/cape coat like that on the high street!

Ah…Olivia is one of my style icons. The only look of hers I’ve successfully “copied” though is one with black pants and denim shirt!
