So it’s December now which means I’m playing Christmas music and Elf basically non stop.
Who’s with me?
Other than watching holiday movies, my other fave part about the month of December are alllll the excuses to get dressed up and do my hair. I seriously love the ritual of doing my hair.
But my hair doesn’t always love me back.
Between bouncing from brunette back to blonde (I talked all about my hair history here) and now to constant heat styling – my hair has seen its fair share of damage. That being said, I have some tips and tricks for how I am getting my hair back into shape just in time for the holidays.
Eat healthy (when possible).
You know that saying “you are what you eat”? That’s for real, people.
Your skin and your hair are direct products of the food you consume. Ever notice that little breakout you get after a night of dairy? Ever felt like your hair had a little extra grease the morning after a heavy meal? Been there. Felt that.
The holidays are the most tempting time of year when it comes to unhealthy foods. Don’t get me wrong, I will absolutely be all up in that eggnog! But when there’s an opportunity to sneak in some healthy foods – do it. Your hair will thank you for it.
Give your hair a break.
Got time off? Give your hair a break, too!
Heat styling is my favorite way to get my curls but even I know it’s the worst possible thing for your hair. Applied hundred degree heat and burnt to a curly crisp? Nailed it.
The holidays are the best time to give your hair the well-deserved rest it needs. A little time off from heat styling means time for repair and strengthening.
Time for a trim!
Hair is it’s healthiest after a good trim. Say adios to split ends and welcome the weightless bounce.
Does anyone else usually hate their haircut right after they get it? Getting a trim during the holiday time off means having a little time to adjust and let it grow out to the perfect length!
Use protective products.
The best way to get healthy hair for the holidays? Use products that repair and protect.
Enter my products of choice: the Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect line! The name says it all – these are my holy grail products to keep my hair shiny and healthy any time of year.
After I’ve spent a hot second in the shower contemplating all of life’s biggest questions – I get to shampooing.
I squeeze about a quarter sized amount of the Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Miracle Repairing Shampoo into my palm and massage it into my scalp. I have an annoyingly oily scalp so like to really focus on my roots when I shampoo. The awesome thing about my Pantene Pro-V shampoo is that it doesn’t make my hair greasy or weighed down. Sometimes my attempt at giving my scalp a good cleaning results in a greasy part line, but Pantene Pro-V leaves me squeaky clean with no excess oil or product.
I then move on to my favorite product: the Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Miracle Protecting Conditioner. I put a small amount into my palm and focus application on the ends – where I have the most damage. I’m obsessed because it locks in my moisture, repairs my hair, and gives me crazy beautiful shine (in all the right places).
Although I’m trying to cut down on the heat styling, when I do decide to be naughty I like to lock in my curls using the Pantene Pro-V Airspray Flexible Hold Hairspray because it gives the tips of my hair a nice healthy shine.
What are your tips for getting healthier hair?
