Bridal Skincare Prep: Facials

I have big plans to do my own makeup on my wedding day. Let me be clear - this isn’t really a cost savings thing (just the cost of “good” makeup alone is about the same as hiring an artist for the day). I’m doing my own makeup because no one knows my face like I do. Making the decision to do my makeup myself meant I knew I wanted to invest in one big thing - my skin.

Good skin is the base for amazing, flawless makeup. Good skin is also just...GOOD. I never feel more confident than when my skin is clear.

Ever have that good skin day kind of feeling? It rocks.

I’ve been going to SkinSpirit here in San Francisco for over a year now for all my skin needs (check out my vlog of my first time getting Botox here). I knew there was no one I’d trust more than my SkinSpirit fam to recommend the perfect bridal skin prep treatments before my big day. We’ve packed my schedule with some super fun treatments I’ll be sharing with you guys, but I wanted to start by highlighting my most regular treatment that has been the biggest game changer in my skin - facials.

I got my first facial (at SkinSpirit OBVIOUSLY) right after our engagement party back in February. The plan is to have facials once every 1.5-2 months up until the wedding - I like to think about it like regular maintenance! As a beauty blogger, my cabinets at home are packed with great products and I take a lot of pride in my skincare routine, but I have uneven patches, lots of redness, and ZITS. Boy do I have zits. Getting facials has not only helped to clear up my skin, but my aesthetician has also been able to make product recommendations that have improved my at home routines (like adding a vitamin c serum and a retinol!).

I’ll be honest - I don’t know the step by step for what my amazing aesthetician does during our facial times together (if you go to SkinSpirit SF, ask for Michelle!). I usually just like to let her do her thing - she’s that good.

Michelle does a solid inspection of my skin under a bright light (she gives me goggles!) before kicking off the process. Some of my favorite parts of my facial include a good steam, microdermabrasion (I have dry skin so I LOVE the look of my skin after this), I even like the extractions (I know you think I’m lying because yes, they hurt, but it helps clear up the zits). I’m also obsessed with all the warm towels Michelle uses. She’ll place a warm towel on my face or chest and gently press down - it just feels insanely relaxing.

SkinSpirit offers quite a few different facials. I recommend popping in for a consultation to find the right treatment for you!

I'm excited to try the dermaplaning one next...
