Kindle Books I’m Loving

KB and I are both super into gifts. I know that sounds superficial but the reality is that both of our love languages are gift giving and receiving. I get a sick sense of pleasure picking out the perfect gift for a specific person.

Anyway we are total bookworms and after I gifted him a Kindle I became insanely jealous of it. And then one showed up in the mail just for me.

He’s a keeper.

Anyway, I used to swear I’d never give up my paper books. I love the smell of bookstores and the feel of a paperback. But the reality is that books are heavy, clunky, and take up tons of space. The Kindle has made it so much easier for me to read on the go – especially while commuting and traveling.

So let’s talk about my fave books lately.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

I’ve been eating this book up. I’m a self proclaimed anxious little troll who loves to read about anxiety. And happiness. And the human experience.

This little gem of a book essentially outlines that the best way to be happy is to not give a f*ck.

The Gospel According to Coco Chanel

I’ve raved about this book a few times on the blog – and for good reason. This is a biography all about the little lady known as Coco Chanel, but packed with humor and wit.

Did you know before she was known as the inventor of the LBD and the now famous quilted bag, she was a poor orphaned French girl that compulsively lied about her background? She had countless lovers, but only one real love. She was a damn interesting woman and The Gospel reads like a self help book through the life lessons of the fashion icon herself.

The Martian

KB sucked me into this one. Every year he has us watch all the Oscar nominated films and last year he also wanted to read the books behind them. I figured the fact that “The Martian” sounded like a science fiction book automatically meant I wouldn’t be into it.

But it’s so damn funny. The Martian is hilarious and thrilling. I actually found myself on the edge of my seat wondering whether he’d survive Mars…or not.

Southernmost

I have a strange fascination with the South. I think I wish I was a Southern lady with a little bit of that Southern drawl. I’ve never been to the South, but in my mind it’s beautiful and filled with fields, good food, and a hot but beautiful summer.

I actually downloaded Southernmost after I saw Gal Meets Glam reading it on vacation. Southernmost is a fictional story featuring a love triangle and a plot twist.

And hot guys. Did I mention hot guys.

The Help

The South is beautiful, but it’s not without it’s history. I’m a big believer that history repeated is history forgotten.

Most of us know the story of The Help, a tale of black maids in the 1960’s serving white families. There’s love, betrayal, racism, and humanity. The Help is emotional – and it’s real.

The Big Short

Another KB Oscar inspired pick! The Big Short takes place right before the housing market…well…basically imploded.

I’m actually not all that money savvy. I’ve been trying super hard to adult lately. This book was anything but financially heavy and boring – it was just plain exciting. And scary. Because again, it really happened.
