How to Make the Most of Your Time Off

After a serious case of burn out I decided to take the week of Thanksgiving off from work. Sometimes you just need a moment to fully reset. Thanksgiving week was perfect because I got to spend extra time getting ready for the holidays & seeing family.

If you followed along on Snapchat (blondebagel) you saw we’ve already put up our tree! I’m so ready for the holidays.

Taking time off work also meant taking time for adventures! I met up with my friend Suzy at Sutro Baths and we had a blast shooting around the ruins. Suzy is actually the best luxury/travel blogger there is and I kind of can’t handle her Instagram. Like she just got back from the most amazing African safari and her page is filled with insane shots of wild animals.

Taking time off was an amazing reminder how important it is to make time for self care. It’s super easy to work work work until you crash. But why live life like that? Scheduling out some “you time” is major – and there are some pretty awesome ways to spend it, too!

Take time to do nothing.

Millennials aren’t great at doing nothing. And I mean really doing nothing. Like put the phone down, turn the tv off – disconnect. We are so plugged in all the time. It’s insanely relaxing to take a break from everything and everyone.

I definitely made sure during my week off to take time to actually do nothing. All those self indulgent things we often call “lazy” – I laid in bed longer than I should have. I took walks. I did “nothing” and it rocked.

Find your zen.

I’m not really a meditation person and yoga gives me raging vertigo, but there are tons of other ways to find your zen. There are two things for me that bring me instant calm: warmth and essential oils.

Yes, I’m basically a 65 year old in an almost 25 year old’s body.

But seriously. I snuggled hard with my heat pack and had my essential oil diffuser running like non stop during my week off. If you haven’t jumped on the essential oil diffuser train you actually have to. They’re so freaking therapeutic.

Whatever it is that chills you out – do it! Find your zen.

Adventures are awesome.

After you’re done doing nothing – it’s time to do something new! Making time for adventures on your days off is super important. You don’t even have to travel far – Suzy and I made our own adventure right in our own backyards.

Pamper yourself.

Is anyone else’s fave episode of Parks & Rec the “treat yo self” episode? Donna and Tom have it right – make sure to treat yo self during your time off.

Buy yourself that gorgeous shade of lipstick

Treat yo self.

Get a mani pedi.

Treat yo self.

Buy the shoes.

Treat yo self.

You get the point.

Burn out is super common – taking time to stop and smell the roses is not. As you’re getting ready to ramp up into the holiday season make sure to carve out some “you time” and show yourself a little self love.
